Last week, a smartphone surfaced online which was believed to be the Xiaomi redmi E — an affordable variant of the Mi 4. At its fifth anniversary event in China, CEO Lei Jun took the wraps off the smartphone, which essentially is the Mi 4, but with 2GB of RAM.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 variant launched today is identical to the smartphone that was launched earlier this year, except for the RAM. Where that smartphone featured 3GB of RAM, the variant launched today features 2GB of RAM. In comparison to the Rs 19,999 price tag for the 16GB variant, the variant with 2GB of RAM is priced at 1,699 Yuan (Rs 17,132 approximately). It goes on sale today in China, but there is no word on when it could launch in other countries.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 features a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, and 16GB/64GB internal storage. The smartphone also features a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 8-megapixel front facing camera, and a 3,080mAh battery. On the connectivity front, the Mi 4 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and on the software front it runs on Android KitKat wrapped under MIUI 6.0.
At today’s event in China, Xiaomi also launched the Redmi 2A, Smart Scale, Mi Power Strip, and a couple of Mi TVs.
