What's the difference between Recovery ROM and Fastboot ROM?
A: 1) To flash Recovery ROM, you just need to put the ROM file into your device's SD card root directory, and flash it in Recovery mode. Flashing Recovery ROM will not wipe your user data or the files in internal storage.A: 2) To flash Fastboot ROM, you'll need to connect your device to a computer, and use ROM flashing tools. You can choose different fastboot script to decide whether to wipe data or not
Q: When should I flash Recovery ROM, and when to flash Fastboot ROM?
A: Normally you just need to flash Recovery ROM for regular update. If you want to wipe data to solve some bugs/issues etc., you should flash Fastboot ROM.

Required Files for Flashing MIUI ROM in Fastboot Mode :

Download the ROM you need to Flash (Global/China or Developer/Stable) and ROM Flashing tool (MI Flash).

Important: - Before flashing it is advised to take the backup of data and make sure that your phone battery is charged enough.

Steps:-

1. Download ROM from the above link (Which Oneyou Want to Flash) and extract it to Desktop.

Note: - Some users get error while extracting onDesktop Because there is space in the username of PC or the folder as shown.

The users should put the ROM In C Drive in a folder without spaces. E,g C:/ROM/MIUI

2. Download flashing tool from the above link and install it.

3. Once installation is complete, Run MiFlash application

4. Click on browse

5. Select ROM folder from Desktop(From the location where ROM is saved)

Note: -The path of the ROM folder Should be like "C:\Users\Muzamil\Desktop\MIUI" Not"C:\Users\Muzamil\Desktop\MIUI\images"

The MIUI Rom folder should Contain the following files

6. Turn off the phone, press the Volume Down keyand the Power button at the same time to enter Fastboot mode, then connect the phone to a computer.

7. Press Refresh button to see you device in flashing tool.

After pressing refresh button you will see connected device.

Here You have 3 options to select.

Choose the options carefully as per your need:-

1. Flash_all:- Clears all the data of the built-in storage, clear all user data, please be careful!(Clean Install)

2. Flash_all_except_storaget:- Will erase all user data does not clear the built-in storage data.

3. Flash_all_except_data_storage:- Does not clear the built-in storage data does not clear user data

Note:- It is advised to take all personal data backup on PC/Laptop

8. Click on Flash and it will start process

9. Once flashing process completes

Device will automatically reboot. Reboot might take upto 5 minutes.

How to export iPhone contacts from iCloud to (Xiaomi) Redmi ?

If you have an iPhone and have turned on the contacts to sync with iCloud, then you can follow the steps below to transfer the contacts to your new(Xiaomi) Redmi.

Note: Again, this method is only possible if you’ve your iPhone contacts synced with iCloud.

i. Export iPhone contacts to a vCard file on the iCloud.

Go to icloud.com and sign in using your apple ID.
Select Contacts.
Click the Settings icon at the lower left corner, and then select Select All.
Click the same Settings icon again, and then select Export vCard. A .vcf file will be generated, and please save this file on your computer.

ii. Import the vCard file to Google Contacts.

Go to Google Contacts and sign in using your Google ID.
Next, go to More > Import.
Click Choose File to select the .vcf file that was generated in Part i and then click Import.
Next, you should see all the contacts get imported to My contacts, and a new contact group with the naming convention of [Imported + DD/MM/YYYY] created automatically.
For housekeeping purpose, it’s fine to delete [Imported + DD/MM/YYYY] group. So, click on the group name, go to More > Delete Group.
If you’re prompted for confirmation , tap OK.
While the [Imported + DD/MM/YYYY] group is removed, you should still see all the contacts remain in My Contacts.

Note: Besides Google Contacts, you can also import the .vcf file to Xiaomi Contacts. See this guide for more information

ii. Sign in Redmi using your Google account.

To display Google Contacts on your Redmi’s Contacts app, you need to sign in to your Google account. If you’ve done so during the initial setup, then you should see all the contacts on your phone by now.

If you haven’t done so already, kindly follow the steps below to sign in to your Google account on Redmi :

On your Redmi, find and launch the Settings.
Scroll to the Accounts section, and tap +Add account.
On the Add an account screen, tap Google and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the sign in.
Once it’s completed, the contacts of the Google account should appear on your Redmi’sContacts app.

Note: The steps here were written for Android 4.2.2 on a Redmi (HM1W). If you’re having a different model of Redmi or other version of Android, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different.

1. What are the mobile networks that are supported by the 2 SIM card slots ?

While both card slots accept SIM cards with data connectivity, only the left slot supports 3G mobile data (WCDMA/GSM) while the right slot is rated for 2G data connectivity (GSM). And, for your information, you need normal sized SIM cards for the 2 slots.

2. What mode does the dual-sim work in ?

The Redmi supports dual-standby, which means both SIM cards are active to receive calls and text messages. But when you’re using SIM 1 and another person is calling on SIM 2, he/she will hear the message “not reachable, try again later”or the call goes straight to the voice mailbox.

One workaround for this problem is to forward calls between these 2 numbers. When SIM 1 is engaged, the calls to SIM2 will be forwarded to SIM1 and notify you that there’s an incoming call.

3. How do I know the signal strengths of the 2 mobile networks ?

When you insert 2 SIM cards into your Redmi, you’ll see 2 signal bars on the notification panel. The first one is for the first SIM slot, and the second one is for the second SIM slot.

4. How do I disable a SIM card temporarily ?

On your phone, go to Settings > General settings > SIM management.
Tap the SIM card you want to disable.
Slide the Enable switch to the left.

5. How do I edit the display name of both the SIM cards ?

On your phone, go to Settings > General settings > SIM management.
Tap the SIM card you want to change the display name.
Tap Edit SIM name to change the display name.

6. How do I select which SIM card to use when making a call ?

On the dial pad, you can choose which SIM card you want to use to make a call.

7. How do I know for which number (or SIM card) when I receive an incoming call ?

On the Incoming call screen, you can see the SIM card number (either 1 or 2). Also, there are labels of 1 or 2 on the call log entries.

8. How to filter to show only one particular SIM card entries in the call logs ?

On the Phone app, go to Menu > Filter.
Tap the SIM calls you want to display.

Note: As soon as you exit the Phone app, the Call log display will be reset to show all calls.

How do I select which mobile network to use when sending/replying a text message ?

At the bottom of the Compose message screen, you’ll get to choose either send this message using SIM 1 or SIM 2.

How do I know for which SIM card when I receive an incoming text message ?

On the message Popup notification, there’s either number 1 or 2 to indicate the SIM card. And on the Messagesscreen,’re all messages are labeled with either 1 or 2 to show you which SIM that they’re belong to.

How do I choose a specific SIM card to use for mobile data connection ?

On your phone, go to Settings > General settings > SIM management.
Tap Data connection.
Slide the Enable switch to the right.
Tap to select the SIM card you want to use for mobile data connection.

Note: The 2nd SIM card slot only supports 2G connection.

How do I forward calls from SIM 1 to SIM 2 ?

On the Phone app, go to Settings > Call settings > Call forwarding.
Tap the SIM 1 option.
Tap Forward when busy, Forward when unanswered and Forward when unreachable options to enter the SIM 2 number.

Note: The steps here were written for MIUI V5, based on Android 4.2.2 on a Redmi (HM1W). If you’re having a different model of Redmi or other version of MIUI/Android, there’s a possibility that the steps and screenshots will be different
