After the huge success of both the Mi 3 and Mi 4, Xiaomi is finally all set to launch the Mi 5 this Thursday, 16th July, 2015.

The event might also feature the launch of a bigger variant, the Mi 5 Plus.

The launch of the device was first announced through the Chinese website Weibo. The teaser image depicted a slim side view of the possible Mi 5, with the letters PK written on the sides.

The slim design also shows slightly rounded edges but the invitation in itself if so abstract that it is hard to find say how the phone will be right now.

Xiaomi had launched the Mi 4 back in July 2014, so this seems to be the right time for us to expect the Mi 5.

The device is expected to be priced at approximately 24,500 INR.

The leaks about the specs of the Mi 5 have not ceased to crop up every now and then. The screen could be about 5.2-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) LCD display with 2.5D edges.

A Corning Gorilla Glass 4 is said to be on the screen to protect it from getting scratched or broken.

Under the hood, it is to be powered by a Snapdragon 810 chipset and speculations have also hinted earlier at the usage of a 4GB RAM, but no confirmation on it has been delivered yet. Internal storage would vary between 16 and 64 GB.

Various reports have pegged the battery capacity between 3000mAh and 3,030mAh, which is surprisingly lower than that of its predecessor that was fitted with a 3080mAh battery.

Although the rear camera has been confirmed to be about 16 MP by many sources, the reports tend to vary for the front camera.

Some claim that the camera would be only 6MP while others have said that it would be every selfie lover’s dream, with a lens of 13MP.

Some reports have even said that the Mi 5, codenamed Libra, would be fitted with a fingerprint scanner as well.

On the other hand, the Mi 5 Plus may come with a 5.7-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) screen. The rear snapper is expected to be 23 megapixel and would come with OIS and laser autofocus.

Selfie lovers would enjoy clicking away at themselves with the 12-megapixel front facing lens. Internal storage is rumored to be 32 GB.

Both the phones would run on Android Lollipop, with a MIUI 7 user interface. Added on to this would be the Android Open Kang Project, which would make the MIUI 7 even better than before.
